The PSFS Building (Philadelphia Savings Fund Society) is an historic art deco building on the National Register of Historic Spaces.  Completed in 1932 and 35 stories tall, this is one of the first examples of a light steel frame high-rise structure in the United States.  The giant red “PSFS” on the top of the building has graced the Philadelphia skyline for decades.  The project included the analysis and evaluation of the existing steel structure under current building code requirements for the change of use from office to hotel.  Thirty office floors (now hotel) rest on steel transfer trusses spanning 80 feet over the main banking floor (now ballroom).  The project included renovations and alterations to 560,000 square feet of steel structure for conversion into a 600-room hotel and a steel frame expansion containing over 50,000 square feet of space including two new ballrooms, one above the other.
