Drexel University’s Millennium Hall is an18-story, architecturally significant residential building containing over 153,000 square feet of floor area. The upper most floor features a panoramic 360 degree view of the Philadelphia skyline.
With a small 5,000 square foot footprint, the integrated design team's challenge was to develop an iconic symbol for Drexel University, maintain a light feel to the structure with stacked core usages all within a limited budget. The solution became a cast-in-place concrete structure with twisting columns, laterally offset at every floor to create a "spiraling" building with the impression of a visible lean.
The project received the Award of Merit from the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers.
