The nationally renowned Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia embarked on a series of projects beginning with a master plan and continuing through execution of the resulting vision culminating in $650,000,000 of construction.

Phase I of this project is the 10-story, South Patient Tower containing 332,000 square feet of new patient facilities and interior renovations to an additional 35,000 square feet of the existing space including the expansion of the emergency department. The steel frame structure includes vertical expansions and complicated connections to existing buildings, complex transfer trusses, suspended floors, and reconfiguration and expansion to an existing below-grade parking structure as well as seismic upgrades to portions of the existing building.

Phase II consists of two buildings, the nine-story Southwest Tower and the 12-story Northwest Tower, totaling 460,000 square feet.  Both feature complex transfer trusses, suspended floors, and complicated connections to the existing structure. The Northwest Tower has seven floors suspended from trusses located in the upper floor mechanical level. Phase II also includes seismic upgrades to the existing structure and relocation of the helipads.
